George was a regular customer at a particular shopping mall he frequented on weekends. In his mind he knew what he wanted to buy, yet just didn't know for whom yet. It was a simple gold 14 karat chain with a few dangling hearts. Maybe it was meant for someone he hadn't met yet. I guess he was thinking ahead of time of that special gift for that special person. It sat gift wrapped in his bedroom on a night table just waiting and waiting...He struck up a conversation with the girl behind the cologne and perfume counter. It eventually led to their dating as sometimes you never know where these romances start. They both were lucky as George and Geraldine only lived a mile away from each other. That made the dating and the visits to each others apartments a whole lot easier. The same foods, tastes in music, television shows, movies, and a lot of other things they shared in common. After two years he surprised her with a special gift he had saved. Before he gave the gift, he also showed her the receipt that was saved to see if she would remember. "Yes, I remember it and also you at the jewelry counter I used to work at before being transferred to perfumes and colognes. They both smiled and cried a little as each knew now that the other had finally met that special someone. Hugs and kisses followed his putting the gold chain around her neck. Ten years later at ages thirty five and thirty four, it finally happened. The bride and groom kissed at the wedding reception and then she stepped up to microphone and made a speech to the guests. Geraldine held up the gold chain with one hand as she told their story. It inspired them for those who were single to check out their local shopping mall. Long lines were seen at the jewelry counter and possibly in not too far away in the future, at the perfume and cologne counter....Maybe a pattern is established where shopping and gifts have a special meaning in our lives. Intended for someone we haven't met yet, but eventually will...Case in point in a short love story with George and Geraldine and a gold chain.......
